Dispersion - Fire
Demantoid also means "sparkler than diamond" because its dispersion is very high (0.057), higher than diamond (0.044)! Dispersion represents the degree of refraction of the gemstone, which is what we call "fire", so demantoid garnet, like diamonds, will be cut into a round stone Brilliant Cut by cutters to make its fire color more sparkling.
feature
The demantoid garnet produced in the Ural Mountains of Russia has very special inclusions. Under a ten-fold mirror or microscope, you will see bundles of filamentous or needle-like inclusions - called horsetail inclusions. things. If the ponytail can slowly spread out from the center point like a small flower, the ponytail shape is complete, and the inclusions will not overwhelm the fire of the gemstone, the more precious it will be.
Some people say that the contents of a horse's tail look more like dandelions, what do you think?
Origin
Demantoid garnet was first discovered in Russia in 1850. Later, it was occasionally found in Namibia, Italy, Germany or Madagascar, etc. However, the quality produced generally failed to reach the gem level and would not appear. Horsetail-like inclusions. The quality of demantoid garnet produced in the Ural Mountains of Russia is generally relatively stable, and the horsetail-shaped inclusions are also relatively complete, which is a very important reference point.
**Christie's Auction House auctioned a 4.60-carat demantoid garnet diamond ring from the Ural Mountains in Russia designed by Tiffany in April 2017. It was finally sold for US$68,750, which is enough to show its extraordinary value.
crystal
Demantoid's correct scientific name is andradite, which is a member of the garnet family and a close relative of tsavorite. Its crystals are generally not large, and can only reach less than one card. Demantoid garnets with more than three cards are already at the collection level. In May 2008, Christie's Hong Kong auctioned a demantoid garnet diamond ring whose main stone was Russia's Ural Mountains. The demantoid garnet weighed 5.50 carats, and the final auction price was as high as HK$1.3 million.
color
The color of demantoid garnet ranges from dark yellow, yellow-green, green to dark green. The higher the color saturation, not black or dark, and not too much yellow, the color of a high-quality demantoid garnet.
